Project Engineer


POSITION BACKGROUND

Wisconsin Lighting Lab is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join our innovative team in Fond du Lac, WI. In this role, you will support lighting design, project execution, and customer satisfaction, serving as a vital link between sales, production, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background, excellent project management skills, and a customer-focused mindset to ensure seamless communication and successful project delivery.

While lighting and controls experience is not required, candidates with a solid technical interest, a strong baseline in CAD, and a willingness to learn can develop into impactful contributors within a few months.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lighting Design & Analysis: Perform lighting layouts and photometric calculations using software such as AGi32 to meet project specifications and customer requirements.  
  • Project Documentation: Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and detailed project packets for customers, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.  
  • Technical Support: Provide expert assistance to the internal sales team and external partners on lighting products, electrical systems, pole structures, and controls.  
  • Team Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison between sales and engineering teams to align project goals and deliverables.  
  • Electrical & Lighting Controls Expertise: Offer technical support for electrical systems and lighting control technologies, troubleshooting issues as needed.  
  • Project Commissioning: Coordinate the commissioning phase of projects to ensure proper installation and functionality of lighting systems.  
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects from proposal to completion.
  • Field & Warranty Support: Provide on-site field support as required and assist with warranty issues to maintain customer satisfaction post-installation.  
  • Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process enhancements and product innovations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • No degree required; however, completion of a technical school program in CAD, electrical engineering, or a related field is highly valued.  
  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is considered strong relevant experience.  
  • Experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for CAD design and technical drawings, with a solid baseline in CAD skills.  
  • Experience with document management and editing in Adobe programs (e.g., Adobe Acrobat).
  • Understanding of electrical systems, controls, and/or related technologies; knowledge and experience in AC electrical systems is great experience.  
  • Keen interest in computers, technology, and tinkering, with a hands-on mechanical and electrical background.  
  • Computer networking, troubleshooting, and hardware experience is very helpful in learning our software and controls platform.  
  • No prior lighting experience required; a strong technical interest and willingness to learn can lead to success in this role within a few months.  
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and customers.  
  • Technical problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality support.  
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for field support and project commissioning.
